Summary

What Researchers Did

Researchers measured arterial oxygen tension (PaO2) in 24 patients with lung dysfunction before, during, and after hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) treatment.

What They Found

They found that the arterial oxygen tension (PaO2) in patients with lung dysfunction (pre-HBO2 a/A of 0.45 +/- 0.17) was greater than expected during hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) treatment. However, this PaO2 was still lower than that observed in patients with normal lung function, with a/A ratios ranging from 0.7 to 0.8 during HBO2.

Canadian Relevance

This study has no direct Canadian connection as it was not conducted in Canada nor involved Canadian researchers or participants.

Study Limitations

A limitation of this study is its relatively small sample size of 24 patients, which may limit the generalizability of the findings.
