Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment in which a patient breathes 100% pure oxygen inside a pressurised hard-shell chamber at pressures greater than normal atmospheric pressure, typically 2.0 to 2.4 ATA (atmospheres absolute). This increases dissolved oxygen in the blood by up to 10 to 15 times normal levels, enabling oxygen to reach tissues that are hypoxic, damaged, or infected. Health Canada recognises 14 clinical indications for HBOT, including delayed radiation injury, non-healing wounds, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness, and necrotizing infections. The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) maintains the international clinical evidence base for these and additional indications.
Canada Hyperbarics maintains a database of 11,431+ peer-reviewed studies, a directory of 31 hospitals and regulated facilities across 10 provinces, plus referral pathways for regions without local access, and the most comprehensive Canadian HBOT coverage guide available. In Ontario, OHIP covers all 14 recognised indications at hospital-based programs and select OHIP-approved independent facilities. Find a facility near you.

Growth is primarily driven by the private clinic sector, increased interest in neurological applications (TBI/concussion), long COVID research, and an aging population with rising diabetes prevalence.
Market valuation: Grand View Research and Fortune Business Insights (2024 estimates). Canadian treatment volume: estimated from facility capacity data. Facility counts from the Canada Hyperbarics directory. Canada does not maintain a centralised hyperbaric registry; all figures are best-available estimates.
