Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment in which a patient breathes 100% pure oxygen inside a pressurised hard-shell chamber at pressures greater than normal atmospheric pressure, typically 2.0 to 2.4 ATA (atmospheres absolute). This increases dissolved oxygen in the blood by up to 10 to 15 times normal levels, enabling oxygen to reach tissues that are hypoxic, damaged, or infected. Health Canada recognises 14 conditions for HBOT, including delayed radiation injury, non-healing wounds, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness, and necrotizing infections. The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) maintains the international clinical evidence base for these and additional indications.
Canada Hyperbarics maintains a database of 14,489+ peer-reviewed studies, a directory of 33 hospitals and regulated facilities across 9 provinces, plus referral pathways for regions without local access, and the most comprehensive Canadian HBOT coverage guide available. In Ontario, OHIP covers all 14 recognised conditions at hospital-based programmes and select OHIP-approved independent facilities. Find a facility near you.

$3.7–8B USD
Global HBOT market valuation: $3.7B devices-only segment (Grand View Research, 2024); $8.0B full HBOT market including services and accessories (Fortune Business Insights, 2025).
Growth is primarily driven by the private clinic sector, increased interest in neurological applications (TBI/concussion), long COVID research, and an aging population with rising diabetes prevalence.
Market valuation reflects scope differences: Grand View Research tracks the HBOT devices segment ($3.7B, 2024; 5.8% CAGR 2025–2030); Fortune Business Insights tracks the full HBOT market including services and accessories ($8.0B, 2025; 7.1% CAGR 2026–2034). Facility counts from the Canada Hyperbarics directory. Canada does not maintain a centralised hyperbaric registry.
