What Researchers Did
Researchers investigated the impact of noise generated during the operation of hyperbaric chambers on the cardiovascular systems of 28 operators by monitoring their heart rate and blood pressure during quiet and noisy 2-hour periods.
What They Found
The study found that operators experienced a statistically significant increase in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure at 60 minutes (p=0.0006, p=0.0020) and systolic pressure at 120 minutes (p=0.0017) of noise exposure. Additionally, total heart rate and SDNN values significantly decreased during noise exposure (p=0.0003, p=0.0006).
Canadian Relevance
This study does not have a direct Canadian connection.
Study Limitations
A limitation of this study is the relatively small sample size of 28 participants and the short 2-hour noise exposure period.
