What Researchers Did
Researchers investigated the effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on human platelet physiology by exposing them to HBO or control conditions for 90 minutes.
What They Found
Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) induced 29.8% of platelets to aggregate, significantly higher than the 5.5% observed in control conditions. HBO also led to the increased release of proteins like 14-3-3 zeta and alpha-2-macroglobulin from platelets. However, HBO did not affect nitric oxide production or the expression of platelet activation markers.
Canadian Relevance

Study Limitations
The study was conducted in vitro and further research is needed to fully understand the precise mechanisms and clinical effects of hyperbaric oxygen on platelet activation.
