What Researchers Did
Researchers surveyed healthcare professionals in hyperbaric oxygen therapy units and oncology to understand their knowledge, attitudes, and decision-making about using HBOT as an additional cancer treatment.
What They Found
Out of 202 healthcare professionals surveyed, 58.91% were physicians, and 79.70% had previous training in HBOT for cancer. Participants showed generally adequate knowledge (mean score 52.87), positive attitudes (mean score 41.24), and a proactive approach to using HBOT for cancer. The study found that better knowledge led to more positive attitudes, which in turn improved clinical decision-making regarding HBOT for cancer.
Canadian Relevance
No direct Canadian connection identified. The study is not Canadian, and cancer treatment is not a Health Canada-recognized indication for HBOT.
Study Limitations
This study relied on self-reported survey data from healthcare professionals and did not evaluate the direct clinical effectiveness or patient outcomes of HBOT for cancer.
