What Researchers Did
Researchers presented a case study of a patient who developed methemoglobinemia after an overdose of dapsone, a medication.
What They Found
The authors noted that methemoglobinemia is a condition causing functional anaemia and tissue hypoxia, often acquired from drugs like dapsone. They highlighted methylene blue as the most effective antidote for acquired methemoglobinemia. When methylene blue is not available, alternative treatments such as ascorbic acid and hyperbaric oxygen can be useful.

Study Limitations
As a single case report, this study's findings cannot be broadly applied to all patients with methemoglobinemia.
