What Researchers Did
Researchers studied 113 children experiencing status epilepticus due to infectious and toxic brain edema.
What They Found
Seduxen was identified as the most effective anticonvulsive drug among those used in the 113 children studied. The authors also recommended GABA, gas narcosis, myorelaxants, rehydration therapies, and measures to combat hypoxia, including oxygenotherapy and hyperbaric oxygenation.
Canadian Relevance
This study was conducted in Russia in 1979 and has no direct Canadian connection.
Study Limitations
This study is limited by its observational nature, small sample size, and the age of the research, which predates many modern advancements in pediatric critical care and evidence-based medicine.
