What Researchers Did
Researchers investigated how increased atmospheric pressure affects the sense of smell in 40 healthy volunteers.
What They Found
The study included 40 healthy volunteers (57.5% men, 42.5% women) with a mean age of 38.7 years. They found that odor threshold scores significantly increased when participants were under hyperbaric conditions (2.4 atm abs) compared to normal pressure (1 atm abs). However, there was no significant change in their ability to discriminate or identify odors.

Study Limitations
This study was conducted on healthy volunteers and did not assess the long-term effects or the impact on patients with pre-existing conditions.
