What Researchers Did
Researchers conducted a single-center, open-label study with 15 healthy volunteers to investigate the effects of hyperbaric hyperoxia on microcirculation using various measurement techniques.
What They Found
Hyperbaric hyperoxia led to significant changes compared to baseline, including arterial hypertension (mean arterial pressure 105 mmHg vs 95 mmHg, P < 0.001) and bradycardia (55 beats/min vs 66 beats/min, P < 0.001). Researchers also observed microcirculatory vasoconstriction (rest flow 63 vs 143 perfusion units, P < 0.05) and a decrease in vascular reserve.
Canadian Relevance
This study has no direct Canadian connection as it was not conducted in Canada nor involved Canadian researchers or participants.
Study Limitations
Limitations include the small sample size of 15 healthy volunteers and the single-center, open-label design, which may limit generalizability.
