What Researchers Did
Researchers studied how six people behaved when confined and isolated in a low-pressure hyperbaric chamber for 28 days.
What They Found
The study observed changes in the timing of group tasks and a dispersal of the social group during the middle of the 28-day confinement period. Spatial behavior remained stable at the beginning and end of the isolation, and subjects adapted by increasing body mobility and reducing "collateral activities" (motor activity). Intimate space decreased, with social space being dominant initially, followed by personal space as confinement continued.

Study Limitations
A significant limitation of this study is the small sample size of only six subjects, which restricts the generalizability of the findings to a larger population.
