What Researchers Did
Researchers described a case study of monozygotic twins with type 2 diabetes and angiopathic changes, investigating the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO).
What They Found
One 54-year-old twin with a necrotic wound and 50 m claudication distance received 20 HBO treatments, which eliminated claudication and healed the wound. His monozygotic twin brother also presented with angiopathic changes due to diabetes, and both had chromosomal defects on pairs 3, 11, and 19.
What This Means for Canadian Patients
This case suggests that hyperbaric oxygen therapy could potentially aid in healing diabetic angiopathic wounds and improving claudication for Canadian patients. However, individual patient responses may vary, and further research is needed.
Canadian Relevance
This study has no direct Canadian connection.
Study Limitations
A significant limitation is that this study is a case report of only two individuals, limiting the generalizability of the findings.
