What Researchers Did
Researchers reported on a 48-year-old woman who developed central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion after hormonal treatment and was subsequently treated with hyperbaric oxygen.
What They Found
The patient presented with sudden blurred vision in her left eye, with a best corrected visual acuity of 7/10 (20/32), following three months of hormonal treatment. After 30 daily sessions of hyperbaric oxygen at 253 kPa, her visual acuity improved significantly to 10/10 (20/20) in the affected eye.
What This Means for Canadian Patients
For Canadian patients experiencing sudden vision loss due to central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion, hyperbaric oxygen treatment may be a potential therapeutic option. Patients should discuss this possibility with their ophthalmologist, especially if conventional treatments are not effective.
Canadian Relevance
This study has no direct Canadian connection.
Study Limitations
As a single case report, this study's findings cannot be generalized to a broader patient population or establish definitive treatment efficacy.
