What Researchers Did
Researchers investigated whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy could be a possible treatment for bronchial asthma and other allergic conditions in a small group of participants.
What They Found
The study included 11 men and 5 women with various diseases, 5 healthy men, and 9 men and 2 women with allergies. Participants received hyperbaric oxygen at 1.8 to 2.5 ATA for 60-90 minutes, with 1-4 sessions for healthy individuals and 10-15 sessions for the other groups. A positive therapeutic effect was generally found in allergic states, which was supported by changes in immune system markers.
Canadian Relevance
No direct Canadian connection identified.
Study Limitations
This was a preliminary study with a small number of participants, and full documentation was not available for all subjects, indicating a need for more comprehensive research.
