What Researchers Did
Researchers described a case where hyperbaric oxygen therapy was used to treat a complex muscle infection in a patient who had not responded to standard treatments.
What They Found
A 29-year-old male with chronic pyomyositis and a leg ulcer, unresponsive to multiple surgeries and antibiotics, received 80 sessions of HBOT at 2.4 atmospheres absolute (243 kPa) for 90 minutes each. Following HBOT, the patient showed significant clinical improvement, including healthy new tissue growth, reduced swelling and discharge, and improved movement.
Canadian Relevance
No direct Canadian connection identified.
Study Limitations
As a single case report, this study's findings cannot be broadly applied to all patients with pyomyositis and require further validation through larger studies.
