HBOT Research by Study Type: What the Literature Shows

Across 14,603 indexed studies, 1,086 are randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews, or meta-analyses, with the remainder spanning observational studies, case reports, and other designs.

Study design matters more than study count. Randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews sit at the top of the evidence hierarchy because they control for bias; observational studies and case reports generate hypotheses and document rare events but cannot establish efficacy on their own. This page shows the design mix across the indexed corpus so the volume numbers elsewhere can be read in context.

Study type describes research design, not conclusions. The mix of designs below reflects how studies are classified at import. It is not a measure of whether HBOT works for any condition; a large case-report count, for example, does not establish effectiveness, and design labels can be broad.
