What Researchers Did
Researchers investigated the effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in male and female rats previously treated with paclitaxel.
What They Found
Paclitaxel induced significant mechanical allodynia in both male and female rats, which was completely reversed by either one or four hyperbaric oxygen treatments. While female rats exhibited greater cold allodynia scores than males, HBO2 treatment did not reliably reduce these scores, and neither paclitaxel nor HBO2 affected locomotor behavior or estrous cycling.
Canadian Relevance
This study has no direct Canadian connection as it was not conducted in Canada, nor does it involve Canadian researchers or patients.
Study Limitations
This study was conducted in rats, meaning its findings may not directly translate to human patients and require further clinical investigation.
