What Researchers Did
Researchers conducted a randomised, sham-controlled, double-blind trial to evaluate hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in 25 children aged 8-15 with persistent post-concussion syndrome.
What They Found
Following 60 daily sessions, the HBOT group (n=15) showed significant improvements in cognitive function, including general cognitive score (d=0.598, p=0.01) and executive function (d=0.739, p=0.003), compared to the sham group (n=10). They also experienced better emotional scores (p=0.04) and reduced hyperactivity (d=0.244, p=0.03), with clinical outcomes correlating with positive brain MRI changes.
