What Researchers Did
This retrospective study compared the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) combined with conventional treatment versus conventional treatment alone in 115 patients experiencing cognitive impairment after a stroke.
What They Found
The group receiving HBOT showed significantly greater improvement in cognitive scores, with an average increase of 4.00 points on the MoCA scale compared to 1.63 points in the control group. This group also experienced a greater reduction in LDL-C (bad cholesterol), decreasing by 0.92 mmol/L versus 0.35 mmol/L in the control group. The study found that the reduction in LDL-C mediated 21.07% of the observed cognitive benefit.
