What Researchers Did
Researchers compared hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)-specialized care with routine care in 113 cerebral infarction patients with hemiplegia to assess its impact on limb motor function and mental state.
What They Found
The HBOT-specialized care group demonstrated increased Fugl-Meyer Assessment and Barthel Index scores, and reduced National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, Self-rating Anxiety Scale, and Self-rating Depression Scale scores compared to the conventional group. This group also showed significantly higher nursing efficiency.
What This Means for Canadian Patients
Canadian patients with cerebral infarction and hemiplegia may experience improved limb motor function, mental well-being, and self-care abilities with hyperbaric oxygen therapy-specialized care. This approach could potentially enhance their overall rehabilitation outcomes and quality of life.
Canadian Relevance
This study was conducted outside of Canada, therefore it has no direct Canadian connection.
Study Limitations
A limitation of this study is its single-center design and relatively small sample size of 113 patients, which may limit the generalizability of the findings.
