What Researchers Did
Researchers investigated the impact of mild hyperbaric oxygen exposure on the proliferation of epidermal basal cells in aged mice.
What They Found
They found that mild hyperbaric oxygen exposure, at 1266 hPa with 36% oxygen for 6 hours/day over 1 or 2 weeks, accelerated the proliferative activity of epidermal basal cells in aged mouse skin (34 and 55 weeks old). Epidermal thickness was unaffected across all age groups (5, 34, and 55 weeks).
Canadian Relevance
This study has no direct Canadian connection as it was not conducted in Canada, nor did it involve Canadian researchers or participants.
Study Limitations
A primary limitation is that the study was conducted on aged mice, meaning the findings may not directly translate to humans.
