What Researchers Did
Researchers conducted a rheographic study to investigate the human cardiovascular system's response to multi-day exposure to a 5 ata N2-O2 atmosphere.
What They Found
Most test subjects exhibited significant changes in leg vascular tone regulation at rest in the 5 ata N2-O2 atmosphere. While pulsed blood inflow to the brain and lungs showed no marked changes at rest, moderate and heavy work led to more pronounced alterations in blood inflow under hyperbaric conditions compared to 1 ata. An increase in systemic and pulmonary vascular tone was also noted during the exposure.
Canadian Relevance
This specific study has no direct Canadian connection.
Study Limitations
Limitations of this study include its age (1977), the unspecified sample size, and the focus on a specific hyperbaric environment.
